A team of veterinarians conduct classes. Program topics include animal care and handling, veterinary physical exam, surgical procedures, large and small animal medicine, exotics, radiology, feline/canine topics, aquatics, pet first aid, dentistry, pain management and more.

The current class is full. For information on the 2008-2009 class contact Dr, Rene vanEe at 833-2255 or call Exploring at 891-4073 after May 2008.

Pet Talk Tuesday

Look for NFVS veterinarians each week on WKBW TV's PM Buffalo program in the Pet Talk Tuesday segment. NFVS members discuss timely issues, general and specific pet care topics with host Linda Pellegrino.

Therapy Dogs

The NFVS' Therapy Pet Program members visit Deaconess Hospital on the first and third Saturday of each month at 2 p.m. Participating dogs are certified as Canine Good Citizen or have Therapy Dog International certification.

A Good Citizen ensures that a dog is trained and conditioned to act mannerly in the home, in public places and in the presence of other dogs. The TDI registration is an extension of the Good Citizen for dogs who are particularly sensitive and attentive to people. All dogs are tested and evaluated for Therapy Dog work by Certified TDI Evaluators. While many dogs provide love and companionship in the home, not all dogs are qualified or have the temperament suited to be a Therapy Dog.
